Visit the best of the Cape, without the crowds! The Cape Cod Bay offers unique opportunities for both abstract and traditional landscape photography, for which we will practice both. We’ll visit the tidal flats at sunset and low tide, revealing the most beautiful patterns, colors and layers. We’ll visit the Atlantic side as well, capturing crashing waves, and any sea life that we may encounter. To top it off, ride over the dunes of the Provincelands in our Jeep to Race Point Lighthouse, only accessed by 4x4 or a long hike in the sand. This tour is for the photographer looking for short, classic New England getaway.
Our itinerary is subject to change. We may switch up days, shoot orders, etc. to accommodate for changing weather and the pace of the group.

The Inn at the Oaks is a charming 13 room Inn located in Cape Cod’s historic Eastham, MA. They offer spacious and light-filled accommodations, delicious continental breakfasts, thoughtful amenities, and unfaltering attention to detail. It remains the oldest continuously running lodging establishment in Eastham. Bernie & Marirose will be your hosts.
You will have your own room (you won't need to share) for the duration of the trip.
Get checked in and acquainted. We will introduce ourselves and get ready to go shooting for the evening. We will aim to leave around 2 PM.
Our first stop will be in the nearby town of Orleans. This beach is a local favorite and will have plenty of crashing waves. This is the perfect place to learn about your equipment, practice with filters and creative compositions and get into a groove for the rest of our time.
Catch sunset at Rock Harbor, which on this day roughly coincides with low tide. This beach faces due West, so we will be able to capture the sun as it dips under the horizon and framed by the famous 'clam trees.' Bring some waterproof shoes or boots to get a closer look. After our shoot, we will head to dinner, and then return to the Inn.
There's something for everyone at this Italian favorite.
The benefit of our lodging is that we are just a 5 minute drive from our sunrise location! To make the most of it, we will be sure to arrive plenty early, approximately 40 minutes before sunrise. There's nothing quite like watching the sun rise and illuminate the dunes behind you, watch the seals float on by, and just have a moment of peace before the world wakes up. After our shoot, we will head on back for breakfast and a break.
Reconvene for a sandwich lunch nearby. We will then make our way toward Wellfleet to explore the Atlantic White Cedar Swamp, and a look at the coast. This trail descends through a stunted oak and pine forest into a mature woodland, leads to a boardwalk that winds through the picturesque Atlantic White Cedar Swamp - a 1.2 mile loop.
The Lobster Pot is a Provincetown Tradition and the iconic neon lobster sign has guided generations of guests to the door. People come from around the world to experience their fresh seafood, an amazing view of Provincetown Harbor and outstanding Cape Cod hospitality. The Lobster, Portuguese Fish and Chowder are standouts.
After our early dinner, we will head straight to Race Point. We will be splitting into two smaller groups, where one group at a time will join Kris in his Jeep across the sand. You will have plenty of time to photograph the lighthouse, the sea and surrounding area as the sun sets.
This is completely weather dependent. If the skies are clear, we will have the option to photograph the night sky over another lighthouse en route back to the Inn. From Provincetown, it is about 40 minutes drive back to our accommodations.
Photograph sunrise on the Brewster Flats - the largest tidal flat in North America. The water here at low tide recedes out for over a mile, revealing beautiful natural patterns. This is the perfect place to experiment with abstract photography, or traditional landscapes as the light changes. The true low tide is at 8:23 AM, so patterns will emerge the longer we stay.
We will drop you back off at the Inn where you can rest up, have breakfast, and take your time before either returning home, or continuing on your journey across the Cape. We hope you'll join us for another one!
We will be in touch some time after the tour to organize an optional Zoom session to review our images together and offer critique.
This tour is easy. There will be walking in sand, particularly in Provincetown, but no real hiking. If we go inside Race Point Light, there is a steep ascent up stairs in a confined area. Some walking on boardwalks. The Cedar Swamp trail is a 1.2 mile loop with some stairs, sand, and exposed tree roots.
