Join us on a photo tour of Acadia National Park and the Bold Coast in the peak of New England Autumn. This trip offers up some of the most stunning and diverse landscapes in all of New England.
In Acadia, highlights include a sunrise stops at Bass Harbor Lighthouse and Otter Cliff, where you can capture the interactions between the churning ocean, granite cliffs and unique landscape. At Jordan Pond, crisp autumn reflections of The Bubbles on still water create postcard-perfect compositions, while the Beehive Trail and Ocean Path provide dramatic coastal cliffs framed by vibrant foliage.
On the Bold Coast, the experience becomes even more rugged and remote. Schoodic Point, on the mainland section of Acadia, features expansive granite ledges and pounding surf, particularly stunning at sunset. Further east, the Bold Coast Trail in Cutler reveals rare coastal forests and dramatic cliffside views, ideal at sunrise when fog rolls in off the Atlantic. At Quoddy Head State Park in Lubec, the easternmost point in the U.S., dramatic cliffs and the red-and-white striped lighthouse provide a striking contrast against the morning light. It is also the "first sunrise in America." We'll be sure not to miss it, because it is also our lodging!
This tour is for the photographer looking for a classic New England getaway.
Our itinerary is subject to change. We may switch up days, shoot orders, etc. to accommodate for changing weather and the pace of the group.

Have you ever stayed on site of a lighthouse before? Consider this your opportunity. West Quoddy Head is known as "the first sunrise in America" and you'll get to see it here - twice!
Our host is Bill Clark, a long-time Maine enthusiast, who transformed an old U.S. Coast Guard station into the unique lodging it is today.
The airport offers free long-term parking. If you are driving, please park your car here for the duration of the tour. If you are flying, this is where you will arrive.
We will have a lunch together in Bar Harbor and an informal orientation before the start of the trip.
Explore the Wild Gardens of Acadia and Jesup Path - a beauty of a location during the fall months. Find yourself in what seems like an endless birch grove and practice using different perspectives.
Our hotel is located in Southwest Harbor, further south on Mt. Desert Island. It is about 30 minutes away from Bar Harbor.
Wake up bright and early for one of our favorite viewpoints in all of Acadia: the iconic Bass Harbor Lighthouse. Our lodging is just 5 minutes away, making this much easier! Bass Harbor sports a unique red light, making all your dawn photos have an ethereal glow if you can time it right.
To get the full view of the lighthouse, it will require some good footing and scrambling on rocks.
The Beehive Hike is one of Acadia's most popular, and known as "Maine's Via Ferrata." It is a loop trail, and 1.4 miles roundtrip. There is an elevation gain of 520 feet, and is considered a moderate hike. It takes an average of 1-2 hours to complete. You should also know this trail requires using ladders and rungs, and there are exposed cliffside sections. If you choose to do the hike, you will be rewarded with sweeping panoramic views of Sand Beach, Great Head, and the Gulf of Maine. Do not do this hike if you are afraid of heights.
If you choose not to do the hike, we will have an alternative option for you.
Schoodic Point is technically part of Acadia National Park, but it is located on its own peninsula some distance away. Those who do get to visit are rewarded with fewer crowds, dramatic granite ledges and crashing waves that provide dynamic foregrounds. It is especially nice at sunset, with the direction being perfect for capturing the sun setting behind Mount Desert Island.
Get your classic Maine lobster here!
Located along the Park Loop Road, Otter Cliff is one of the premier spots for capturing sunrise over the Maine coast. As the sun rises over the Atlantic, it casts golden light onto the dramatic granite cliffs, sea stacks, and wave-worn rocks that define this stretch of shoreline. Rocks are round and boulder-like, and make for really unique compositions if you are brave enough to get down lower.
After sunrise, we will trek on to a couple more locations nearby, including Thunder Hole.
After a break, we will check out of our accommodations.
We will visit the summit of Cadillac Mountain during daytime hours, also known as the highest point on the eastern seaboard of the U.S. Cadillac Mountain can be one of the busiest locations in the park. We will make sure to arrange to get sandwiches or salads for lunch and bring them to the top with us.
It is a 2 hour drive from Acadia to Lubec.
We will make a stop in town at a market and gather what we need for a picnic dinner on site of our new accommodations.
Quoddy Head State Park is the easternmost point in the continental United States and home to the iconic West Quoddy Head Lightāa red-and-white candy-striped lighthouse perched above dramatic sea cliffs. We will catch sunset here and figure out our favorite spots before attempting sunrise the next day.
At sunrise, the lighthouse - with its distinctive red-and-white stripes - stands as a striking foreground element against the hues of dawn over the Bay of Fundy. From the cliffs surrounding the lighthouse, you can frame dramatic seascapes, with jagged rocks, crashing waves, and the endless expanse of the Atlantic glowing beneath the sky. Fog and sea mist are common, especially in fall. After our shoot, we will take a break.
Stretching along the remote coastline between Machias and Cutler, this byway winds through dense spruce forests, saltwater marshes, and cliffside overlooks with panoramic views of the Bay of Fundy. Itās one of the least-developed but most visually dramatic sections of the Maine coast - perfect for those seeking solitude and untamed natural beauty.
We will also do a short hike here for one of the best views.
This Tavern & Inn offers Maine seafood classics, but has plenty of other options too.
Something different for the last day: we will look for wildlife to photograph. Moosehorn is known for its abundant wildlife, so early morning is a prime time to encounter and photograph moose, white-tailed deer, waterfowl, and even bald eagles. Boardwalks and nature trails throughout the refuge offer easy access to scenic spots.
We will drop off the group back at the airport near Acadia some time in the early afternoon. It is a 2 hour's drive from Lubec back to the Bar Harbor area. We hope you enjoyed the trip!
We will be in touch some time after the tour to organize an optional Zoom session to review our images together and offer critique.
This tour is rated as moderate. The landscape in Maine is rocky and rugged. If you want to get the best perspectives, you will need to be sure-footed and scramble down rocks - particularly at Bass Harbor Lighthouse. Rocks may be wet or slippery, so caution is needed. Some walking on boardwalks and paved road. The Beehive Hike is also a real hike - and considered moderate to strenuous. It is not for anyone who is afraid of heights (we offer an alternative for those who do not want to do this).
We have a long days from sunrise through sunset, so you will be tired - but worth it!
