Arrive in Iceland

Take your time making your way to Reykjavik. You will fly into Keflavik Airport, and we recommend taking the FlyBus downtown. Check into your hotel; check in begins at 3 PM. We will meet in Reykjavik before a welcome dinner.

Recommended Sites to see during the day: The Hallgrimskirkja, The Sun Voyager Monument, and the Harpa Concert Hall.

Kerlingarfjöll

Fjallabak Nature Reserve

Today we head into the Fjallabak Nature Reserve, a paradise for nature lovers and adventure seekers. Known for its vibrant colors and unique geological formations, this reserve offers unforgettable hiking trails that wind through valleys, past hot springs, and alongside glacial rivers.

Hrauneyjar & Bláhylur

Hrauneyjar serves as a gateway to some of Iceland's most picturesque landscapes. Known for its unique volcanic surroundings, Hrauneyjar offers stunning views and access to hiking trails.

We will also visit Hnausapollur - also known as Bláhylur - a stunning blue lake nestled in a crater that formed some 1100 years ago in a short explosive eruption.

Haifoss

Haifoss, one of Iceland's tallest waterfalls, captivates visitors with its height of 122 meters. Nestled in the Þjórsárdalur valley, this cascade tumbles into a gorge, surrounded by dramatic cliffs and lush greenery.

Mælifell

Mælifell is a pointy mountain and volcano that is difficult to visit due to its location deep in the highlands. It is 791 meters tall. It was once concealed under Mýrdalsjökull glacier, the third largest glacier in the country, but became exposed when the glacier retreated at the end of the last Ice Age. Vibrant green hills contrast against the stark, black volcanic terrain. It is often surrounded by braided rivers.

Hólmsá Area & Hidden Canyons

Hólmsá is a remote, glacier-fed river, and famous for its untouched, lunar-like volcanic landscapes, We will explore this area along with hidden canyons!

Axlarfoss

This hidden gem of a waterfall cascades powerfully over rugged cliffs. As you approach, the sound of rushing water fills the air. If we're lucky, we might see a rainbow!

Hólmsá River

Markarfljótsgljúfur Canyon

Visit Markarfljótsgljúfur Canyon - a deep canyon and could be described as one of Iceland's most beautiful. Few people ever get to see it, due to it's location deep in the highlands, and required 4x4 vehicle to get there.

It is a short hike to this location, a 2.5 mile total loop. The vistas are worth it.

Last Sights & Scenes En Route to Reykjavík

Last sights along the South Coast while en route back to Reykjavik. We should have an opportunity to create more braided river shots for those with drones.

Fitness & Pace

This Tour is Rated as Easy to Moderate

This tour involves moderate physical activity and requires participants to have a reasonable level of fitness.

Hiking in Kerlingarfjöll: Trails are not that long, but they are steep and can be slippery if it has been raining. People with bad knees will have a problem hiking there, but can shoot vistas where we park. Hveradalir loop is around 2.4 miles and elevation gain is 400-800 ft.

Hiking in Landmannalaugar: Laugahraun Loop is around 2.8 total miles, with about 650 ft elevation gain.

All hikes are optional.

September is a shoulder season, and you should be prepared with layers of clothing, especially a waterproof layer. You should plan and dress accordingly to be able to stand outdoors for up to 3 hours at a time.

Hope Pashos & Chris Lund

Hope Pashos has embraced the digital medium after shooting on film since she was a child. Her specialties are nature, landscapes, and astrophotography. She loves to photograph the world around her, but focuses on New England and its shores and abundant waterfalls and travels frequently to Iceland as well as many US National Parks.

Hope’s passion is to share her knowledge with others. A former Pro and Genius with Apple, Hope has been able to teach iPhoneography and develop techniques with the iPhone for both taking and editing photographs. She developed one of the first iPhone photography workshops, teaching her signature macro technique on an iPhone 4. As the iPhone camera developed, so too did her techniques. With the built-in capabilities of the newest iPhones and additional attachment lenses, Hope can now photograph any type of subject, under any conditions. And using a combination of the latest mobile editing apps, she is able to digitally process her images - both from her phone and from her full-sized Sony camera - while on the go.

Hope has had her collection ‘Boston After Dark’ displayed in a collective exhibition. She has also been exhibited in locations around the US, including an exhibit at the Griffin Museum of Photography, and printed in various publications.

Chris Lund was born and raised in Iceland; he's been immersed in photography from a young age. He learned the craft through hands-on experience, working closely with his father, Mats Wibe Lund, a renowned figure in Icelandic aerial photography. Chris further honed his skills at Fotografskolen/Medieskolerne in Viborg, Denmark, graduating in 2003. A passionate landscape photographer and certified guide, Chris specializes in a wide range of photography, including landscapes, portraits, corporate events, and architecture. He also offers fine art printing for artists and galleries, as well as prepress work and color separation for publishing companies. With over 20 years of experience working across Iceland, Norway, and Denmark, Chris has cultivated a deep understanding of diverse landscapes and cultures. Fluent in four languages, he enjoys connecting with new people and sharing his love for photography.
